The Friars Club in Beverly Hills is getting a face lift. Some of its members could use one too, but that’s their problem.
Officials of the private club announced the renovation as part of an effort to lure new members into the storied watering hole, long a refuge for comedians and other entertainment types.
It turns out you don’t have to be a funny guy--or funny, or a guy--to rub elbows with the likes of Milton Berle, Gloria Allred or Arnold Schwarzenegger.
When Allred joined in 1987--she was the first woman--Berle thanked her for bringing down the average age of the members. “Why, what is it now?” she asked.
Berle: “Deceased.”
