IBM Strikes Deal in Italy: The U.S. computer company and Telecom Italia will work together to sell services on communications networks, chiefly for businesses and governments. The companies will combine the data networks they offer to businesses and jointly sell e-mail, Internet navigation, video-conferencing and other software and services. International Business Machines Corp. will also help Italy’s phone company and its parent company, called STET, introduce interactive services that require higher-capacity broad-band communications lines. A memorandum of understanding has been signed by the two companies and they are working on permanent agreements.
