Camarillo businesses, nonprofit agencies and schools with innovative and successful recycling programs to reduce waste are eligible to enter the city’s WasteWatch awards competition.
Sponsored by the city of Camarillo, the contest will showcase businesses, organizations and schools that have taken steps to reduce pollution and preserve landfill space by recycling, composting, reusing or reducing waste materials. With the exception of schools, public agencies are ineligible.
Winning programs will be based on innovation, cost effectiveness, participation, duration, trash diversion rates and recent waste reduction improvements.
Prizes include gold and silver plaques, recognition at a September City Council meeting and decals declaring that the organizations are environmentally conscious.
Nominations are due by Aug. 31 at Camarillo’s recycling office, 601 Carmen Drive, 93010.
For more information or to obtain nomination forms, call the recycling office at 388-5392.
The WasteWatch awards program will be part of the statewide Pollution Prevention Week Sept. 16-23.
