World IN BRIEF : JAPAN : Trials Begin for Sect Members in Gassings

Japan brought to court the first of more than 100 members of a doomsday cult on charges related to deadly nerve gas attacks, murders and kidnapings. Kumi Nebuka, a clerk at an Aum Supreme Truth cult hospital, was ushered into the dock at Tokyo District Court to face charges of harboring a fugitive. Other cult members will face charges of murder and attempted murder related to incidents including the sarin nerve gas attack on the Tokyo subway in March, which killed 12 people and sickened more than 5,500 others.
