LA HABRA : Plan Board to Get Nude-Dancing Pitch
- Share via
A proposal to open a nude-dancing theater at a former bank property on Imperial Highway will be heard by the Planning Commission on Monday.
The property, on the northwest corner of Imperial and Harbor Boulevard, has been acquired by Bill Badi Gammoh. He proposes to turn it into the Pelican Theater, featuring totally nude dancing on stage.
The site is across the street from a Target store, a shopping center and a police substation.
Gammoh said he plans to serve only nonalcoholic beverages and allow entry to anyone 18 or older.
The Traffic Commission late last month approved a traffic study conducted by engineers hired by Gammoh.
Gammoh could open the club as soon as planning commissioners grant his request. But the decision could be appealed to the City Council, officials said.
Several city activists have said they will appeal the Planning Commission’s decision if it allows the Pelican Theater to open.
About a dozen residents have already written letters opposing the proposed establishment, officials said.
