On Beatrix Potter

An observation regarding “A Beatrix Potter Pilgrimage” (July 16): While Beatrix Potter was visiting friends in Gloucester, she heard the story that formed the basis of what she often called her favorite of her own stories, “The Tailor of Gloucester.” The shop in College Court, now called the House of the Tailor of Gloucester, sells Beatrix Potter stuff and is a fairly accurate representation of a house of the time. [Potter] may have profited greatly from the “Tale of Peter Rabbit,” but she later was heard to curse the rabbits and prefer “The Tailor of Gloucester.”
