COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Simpson’s 4 Goals Spark Fullerton

Jamie Simpson scored all of Fullerton’s goals in its 4-0 victory over Moorpark in second-round play of the Bakersfield women’s soccer tournament Friday.

Goalkeeper Maria Buenrostro had five saves for the shutout.

In a first-round game, Fullerton and Bakersfield tied, 0-0. Fullerton is 4-0.

In nonconference men’s soccer:

Irvine Valley 8, Compton 1--With the score tied, 1-1, at the half, Paul Taghavi-Bayat opened the second half with this second goal of the day. Irvine Valley (3-0-1) scored seven second-half goals.

Rancho Santiago 3, San Diego Mesa 0--Former Santa Ana High star Gus Plasencia scored two goals and teammate Oscar Lara added one for Rancho Santiago (2-1).

In the Cuesta water polo tournament:

Saddleback 9, Orange Coast 5--Jim Lowe scored three goals in the victory for Saddleback (1-1). Tetsuro Ono added two goals.

Earlier, Saddleback lost to West Valley, 15-6. Lowe and Ono each had two goals in the loss.

Golden West 8, Ventura 4--Andre Araujo and Jeremy Pope each scored three goals for Golden West (6-0).

Pope scored four goals in Golden West’s 18-3 victory over San Diego Mesa in an earlier game. Jeff Hamilton and Gabe Wyatt each had three goals in the victory.
