La Canada 20, Alhambra 6--Sam Paneno rushed for 212 yards and two touchdowns in 22 carries in the Spartans’ victory at Alhambra.
Paneno, a 5-foot-11, 187-pound senior, broke the 200-yard mark for the third time in four games.
With La Canada (3-1) holding a 12-6 lead late in the fourth quarter, Paneno scored on a 38-yard touchdown run. The score, followed by quarterback Todd Crane’s two-point conversion run, put the game out of reach with 2:36 remaining.
Paneno busted loose for a 61-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to give the Spartans a 12-0 lead.
La Canada’s first score came on a 39-yard touchdown pass from Crane to receiver Erik Ovanespour in the first quarter.
Alhambra (2-2) cut La Canada’s lead to 12-6 on Adam Tate’s one-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter. The Moors were limited to 111 total yards and lost three fumbles.
