Woman Hit by Pickup Truck Dies

GRANADA HILLS — A retired 79-year-old woman died after being hit by a pickup truck as she crossed the street at night while wearing dark clothing, Los Angeles police said Sunday.
Margaret Mitchell was walking across Haskell Avenue near Kingsbury Street at about 7:50 p.m. Saturday when she was struck, said Officer Norm Nagengast. She was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills with head injuries and was pronounced dead at 8:12 p.m.
Mitchell was wearing a black top, skirt and tights, which made her difficult to see in the dark, Nagengast said. The driver of the pickup has not been charged.
