Lakers Evacuate Hotel Because of Fire

HONOLULU — Members of the Lakers were among dozens of guests evacuated from the Hawaii Prince hotel early Wednesday after a fire broke out in a room.
“We were evacuated between 1:30 and 1:45, somewhere in there,” said Laker spokesman John Black. “We didn’t get back in until 3.”
Black said the fire was not in the same tower where the Lakers were staying.
While waiting for the all-clear, Black said, “We saw each other in ridiculous clothes and our hair messed up.”
The Lakers are in Hawaii for the first week of training camp and two exhibition games against the Seattle SuperSonics.
Guests were evacuated primarily because of smoke.
