Long-awaited expansion plans for the Moorpark Library are finally moving forward, now that the Ventura County Library Agency has awarded a building contract to an Encino-based firm, officials said Wednesday.
The Board of Supervisors awarded a $279,849 contract Tuesday to RCO Construction Co. The construction will expand the existing 5,000-square-foot building to 7,717 square feet. The library is at 699 Moorpark Ave.
“It is going to let us have more room for the shelving of materials and more room for studying,” said Dixie Adeniran, director of the county’s Library Services Agency. “It is very crowded out there right now.”
County documents show local businesses and members of the community raised $46,266 toward the construction, which will cost about $377,275, including design and contingencies. City and county money for the project totals $325,000.
Limited parking and cramped conditions have plagued the library for years.
