NEW YORK — Officials said they broke up the biggest illegal cellular telephone “cloning” operation in the country Wednesday with the arrest of three men accused of forgery, theft of service and burglary.
In the past seven months, 27,000 phones were cloned and at least 3,000 access numbers had been obtained for use with the phones, officials said. Losses from the operation may exceed $27 million.
Police have seized cloning software, cellular equipment and 46 cellular phones.
