BW/IP Chooses a New President and Chief Executive

Bernard G. Rethore has been named president and chief executive of BW/IP Inc.
Rethore, who also joins the Long Beach company’s board of directors, succeeds Peter C. Valli, who will retire at the end of the year, although he will remain as chairman of the board.
Rethore, 54, is the former president of Phelps Dodge Industries.
BW/IP produces pumps and pumping equipment, mechanical seals, nuclear valves and aircraft parts and equipment.

Great Western Financial Corp. has named Barry R. Barkley senior vice president and controller. Barkley will direct the Chatsworth-based company’s accounting and financial reporting functions. He will also be responsible for continuing the development of more bank-like financial systems and work on reducing operating costs.
Before joining Great Western, Barkley, 52, was executive director for corporate re-engineering at Banc One Corp. and chief financial officer at Banc One’s Texas subsidiary.

Bruce Broussard will join Regency Health Services Inc. as chief financial officer on Jan. 1, the company announced. Broussard, 33, will succeed Gary I. Massimino, who is retiring. Broussard previously was a director and chief financial officer of Sun Healthcare Group Inc.
Tustin-based Regency operates 92 health care centers in California, Ohio, New Mexico and West Virginia.

Fluor Corp. has appointed Lee C. Tashjian, 49, to the newly created position of vice president, corporate relations.
Before joining the Irvine-based engineering and construction company, Tashjian was executive assistant to the chairman at E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co.
