MOORPARK : Election Scheduled to Replace Montgomery

The Moorpark City Council scheduled a special election March 26 to fill the vacancy of former council member Scott Montgomery.
The council voted Wednesday night to spend up to $6,000 to conduct the election, which will coincide with the statewide presidential primary. The elected candidate will serve the remainder of Montgomery’s term--until next November.
Montgomery resigned Oct. 12 after pleading guilty to a felony conflict of interest charge for accepting a $3,500 loan from the trash company executive and then voting to extend a rubbish contract with the firm.
A city ordinance required that the council try to fill the vacancy within 30 days of Montgomery’s resignation, but the council deadlocked 2 to 2 last week on whether to appoint an interim member before the March election.
