PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : NFC : Cowboys’ Lett and Holmes Suspended for Four Games

Leon Lett and Clayton Holmes of the Dallas Cowboys were suspended for four games by the NFL for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.
The suspensions were effective immediately and will sideline Lett, a starter at defensive tackle, and Holmes, a reserve cornerback, until Nov. 24, the day after Dallas plays Kansas City. They will be eligible to return for a Dec. 3 home game against Washington.
“We are confident that Leon Lett and Clayton Holmes will be able to overcome this setback in a positive way, and we extend our complete support to both of them,” owner Jerry Jones said in a statement.

Prosecutors declined to file charges against San Francisco 49er defensive lineman Dana Stubblefield in connection with an argument that turned into a car theft report. . . . The 49ers have not decided whether Steve Young will play Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
