‘BIG A’-BOUND: Big-time football returns to Anaheim Stadium--at least a chunk of it. Anaheim’s new Arena Football League franchise, which will play its home games at The Pond, signed a deal with the city this week to set up its headquarters at Anaheim Stadium. It will pay $2,835 monthly for 2,100 square feet of space at the Big A’s new Gate 6 office complex. . . . Its season starts next spring. What’s the team’s name? That’s due next Tuesday.
HAIR’S THE THING: You’ve heard Tom Hanks is shooting his next movie, “That Thing You Do,” in Orange later this month? How would you like to be in it? . . . Bill Dance Casting will hold casting sessions--for extras and bit parts--Saturday and Sunday mornings at the Hyatt Regency Alicante Hotel in Anaheim. . . . The setting is 1964, so here’s who’s wanted: Men, cleanshaven, short-haired. Women, lots and lots of hair, “for pouffing and teasing,” says Dance. . . . The pay is $40 a day. No long resume required. Says Dance: “You never know what might happen. Everyone starts somewhere.”
POPULAR FEET: It was strictly routine when Fullerton policeman Fred Casas was switched from his downtown foot patrol beat to another assignment. But it wasn’t routine how he got switched back: Unhappy downtown merchants started a letter-writing campaign to City Hall, saying he was too good to lose. “Officer Fred really cares,” says antique store owner Cindy Greer. . . . Says Casas, who returned this week: “It’s nice to work for an agency that responds to the public’s wishes.”
NO FREE LUNCH: Despite numerous arrests, prostitution continues along Harbor Boulevard. Upset Costa Mesa residents this week asked for more police help. But Councilwoman Sandra L. Genis is pushing a plan tried in other cities she thinks will be more effective: Asking newspapers to print the names of the prostitutes’ johns who are arrested. . . . Says Genis: “It might help things if these guys’ neighbors knew what they were up to on their lunch hour.”
