CITY SECTION ROUNDUP : Verdugo Hills’ Drought Ends With 34-14 Victory

Sean Standley rushed for 133 yards and three touchdowns in 13 carries to propel Verdugo Hills High to a 34-14 victory over Belmont and its first winning season since 1981.
The Dons (6-4, 5-2 in league play) tied for second place in the Northern Conference. Verdugo Hills, 1-7-2 last year, has won four in a row.
Standley scored on runs of 61, 43 and nine yards. His last touchdown gave the Dons a 27-14 lead with 10 minutes 55 seconds left.
Alex Trevino’s 21-yard scoring pass to Casey Thompson off a fake punt sealed the victory with 2:18 remaining.
