Beilenson’s Departure Sad for Santa Monicas

Although I wish Rep. Anthony Beilenson all the best, I am saddened by his impending departure. As an avid hiker, I can especially appreciate Beilenson’s [role in the] creation of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, and am uneasy with its future, particularly since greedy political pundits in both the House and Senate have recently targeted open space as unnecessary for federal funding. It frightens me that Beilenson’s successor may not be as dedicated to or as concerned with this very important acquisition.
