Northwestern Gets to Smell the Roses

Typical of Northwestern’s miracle football season, the Wildcats did not even have to win Saturday to reach the Rose Bowl for the first time since 1949.
Northwestern, which finished its regular season with a 10-1 record, clinched a trip to Pasadena when Michigan upset previously unbeaten Ohio State, 31-23.
That gave the Wildcats, one of college football’s perennial losers, the Big Ten Conference championship with an 8-0 record. Ohio State finished 7-1 in Big Ten play.
On Jan. 1, Northwestern will face USC, the Pacific 10 Conference champion.
