COUNTYWIDE : 40 Motorists Arrested Over Holiday Period

Forty people were arrested in Ventura County on suspicion of drunk driving over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, including one man who later died from injuries sustained in a traffic accident.
The California Highway Patrol designates the Thanksgiving weekend from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Sunday as a maximum enforcement period, with additional officers assigned to monitor crowded highways.
In one fatal accident, Jose Luis Flores, a 27-year-old Oxnard man, died Saturday at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, one day after his car plunged over the edge of Pacific Coast Highway near Leo Carrillo State Beach.
Friday morning, post-Thanksgiving Day traffic stalled in the southbound lanes of the Ventura Freeway after a runaway flatbed truck loaded with firewood struck a car driven by a 77-year-old man, whose injuries were minor.
On Thanksgiving, an elderly man died after his car flipped over and rolled off the southbound lanes of the Ventura Freeway in Camarillo. Thousand Oaks resident Albert Eugene Acton, 71, died in the one-car accident that left him trapped in his car with multiple injuries.
