Sylmar : College Rally to Focus on Affirmative Action
- Share via
A community college student organization called the Student Coalition for Affirmative Action will hold a rally Wednesday in support of government affirmative action policies.
The rally will take place at Mission College in Sylmar. Students from the nine-campus Los Angeles Community College District are invited to the event, which organizers say is aimed at updating students, teachers and administrators on current affirmative action issues and other education topics.
The group said it has invited several student leaders and professionals with varying viewpoints on affirmative action to speak at the event. It also plans to circulate a petition denouncing the UC Regents’ decision this year to abolish affirmative action at its nine campuses. The coalition also opposes the California Civil Rights Initiative.
The rally will be held from 12:30 to 3 p.m. on the Campus Quad at 13356 Eldridge Ave.
