Japan Cities World’s Costliest, Survey Says: Tokyo and Osaka are the world’s most expensive cities but Tripoli, Libya, is catching up fast, because of the impact of sanctions, the Economist Intelligence Unit reported. For those planning a night out on the town, Hong Kong and Singapore were much better value than most European cities. Swiss cities were the most expensive in Europe, while Libreville in Gabon and Brazzaville in Congo topped the Africa list. Tehran, Iran, reclaimed its position as the world’s cheapest business location.
