BOGOTA, Colombia — Five soldiers were killed and 11 wounded in two clashes between Colombian troops and leftist guerrillas in the northwest, an army official said Friday.
The troops suffered the casualties in a skirmish near the town of Urrao in Antioquia province Thursday and during an ambush nearby the following day, the official said.
On both occasions, the troops clashed with members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, the country’s largest and oldest rebel movement, which has waged an armed insurgency against the state for more than 30 years.
