Dense-Pac Makes Move

Dense-Pac Microsystems Inc. officials said that the company’s stock will begin trading on the Nasdaq National Market today. Previously, the company’s stock was traded on the Nasdaq Small Cap Market.

Dense-Pac applied to move its stock to the National Market in December, said Bill Stowell, chief financial officer of the company. He said Dense-Pac had to meet a number of criteria set by Nasdaq officials, including certain measures of profitability, asset size and market value.

Moving to the top tier of the Nasdaq system offers a number of advantages, Stowell said. Investors will now be able to borrow against their holdings in the company, he said, and the company’s stock will for the first time be considered by mutual funds and other institutional investors that sometimes don’t invest in Small Cap issues.

Dense-Pac, based in Garden Grove, has developed techniques for stacking computer chips to conserve space. The technology is used in missiles and other devices that require large amounts of computer memory to be packed into tight spaces.
