Byron Skinner, Compton College’s beleaguered president, has resigned after only two years in the $110,000-a-year post.
The school’s Board of Trustees has mounted a national search for a replacement, said Ulis Williams, associate dean of the school’s evening division and off-campus instruction. Williams has been named acting president.
Skinner and the trustees reached an agreement March 22 that settled a lawsuit he filed last year against the board when it suspended him for 30 days with pay. At dispute was how much he had been authorized to raise faculty salaries.
In August, the Academic Senate, consisting of faculty members, passed a vote of no confidence in the president, saying “the college ship is adrift and heading for the rocks, with a blind captain lost somewhere on board.”
Skinner’s resignation will become effective June 12.
