Camarillo Looks Out for No. 1 Spot, 10-0

After beating Royal High and claiming the No. 1 spot in The Times’ regional baseball poll, Camarillo proved it belongs there.
Nathan Kaup (3-0) did plenty to get the point across Wednesday by pitching a two-hitter as the Scorpions defeated Channel Islands, 10-0, in a Marmonte League game at Channel Islands.
Kaup also hit had a grand slam and a triple, driving in seven runs.
Camarillo (12-1, 6-0 in league play) has won 11 consecutive games and is ranked No. 3 in the Southern Section Division I poll.
Campbell Hall 10, Murphy 1--Mike Appel’s three-run home run in the fourth inning broke open up a nonleague game for the Vikings (6-0) at Campbell Hall.
Erik Rasmussen struck out six and gave up four hits, three walks and no runs in five innings.
Thousand Oaks 12, Las Vegas Bonanza 11--Nick Smith drove in three runs with a double and a home run, and Ryan Holmes had a two-run home run for the Lancers in a Durango tournament game in Las Vegas.
The Lancers (11-6) finished 4-0 in pool play and won their seventh consecutive game.
Grant 14, Canoga Park 6--Jaion Lee paced a 17-hit attack for Grant (2-9, 2-4) with three hits, including a three-run home run, in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Lanark Park.
Steve Hamm was five for five with two RBIs.
Steve Ramos had two hits, including a three-run home run for Canoga Park (2-10, 2-5).
Verdugo Hills 5, Belmont 4--The Dons (5-3, 5-3) edged the Sentinels (0-8, 0-8) in a Northern Conference game at Verdugo Hills.
San Fernando 5, Chatsworth 3--The Tigers (7-6) scored four runs in the sixth inning to win a Northwest Valley Conference game at San Fernando.
SOFTBALL
Louisville 5, Chaminade 0--Stefanie Urman (6-4) pitched a no-hitter for the Royals (6-4, 2-0) in a Mission League game at Chaminade.
Jemma Santos had a single, a double and a triple, driving in one run for Louisville. Jennifer Glennie added a two-run double and Jessica Hanaseth had a triple.
Sylmar 3, El Camino Real 2--The Spartans (7-7, 3-2) scored twice in the top of the seventh to earn a nonconference victory at Sylmar.
Marisela Loyola singled to drive in the tying run and Conquistadore pitcher Tami Jones walked home the winning run.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Van Nuys d. Monroe, 15-11, 15-7, 15-11--Jerry Lai had 11 kills and six blocks for the Wolves (4-4, 4-1), while Devon Berry added 10 kills and five blocks in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match.
Grant d. North Hollywood, 5-15, 15-12, 15-9, 16-14--The Lancers (6-2, 3-2) survived 20 kills by North Hollywood’s Jason Fisher in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match.
