Van Nuys : Injured Dog Rescued From Flood Channel
- Share via
Animal control and police officers rescued a dog from a flood-control channel after an unidentified man dropped the animal 30 feet into the water early Thursday morning.
Officials found the tan and white husky alive inside the channel at about 5 a.m. It was taken to the East Valley Animal Shelter for an examination by veterinarians. Officials said the dog had a broken leg as well as other injuries, but is expected to recover.
LAPD spokeswoman Cherie Clair said officers responded to an early morning call from a resident near the 13400 block of Sherman Way about a man who had dropped a dog into the flood channel. The unidentified witness said the man had tied the dog’s back legs with a rope and then hurled it into the water.
Clair said the man then sped off in what was thought to be a blue Nissan or Toyota.
