The city of Lomita has hired a new, cheaper trash hauler that promises to cut costs and improve recycling efforts, city officials said.
Under the agreement with Metropolitan Waste Disposal, rates will be reduced from $13.50 per month to $12.50, a savings of $12 per year, Councilman Dave Albert said. The trash hauler, who purchased the former collector Shubin Inc., has also agreed to pick up all trash at city parks for free.
In addition, the company has agreed to help the city meet the state mandated recycling goals, which stipulate that by 2000 at least 50% of trash collected must be recyclable.
