Nation IN BRIEF : ARIZONA : Controversial Flag Exhibit Attacked
- Share via
For the second time since a controversial American flag exhibit opened in Phoenix last month, protesters dismantled two of the displays showing flags draped over a toilet and placed on the floor. About 50 members of the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club and their families arrived on motorcycles, walked into the Phoenix Art Museum and removed the flags, said spokeswoman Amy Carr. After an hour of sometimes heated debate with museum officials and other patrons, the protesters trickled out and the exhibits were reinstated. The same displays were dismantled by some of the 300 protesters who gathered on March 16 for the opening of “Old Glory: the American Flag in Contemporary Art.”
