The long goodbye is over, now it’s on to the Long Beach Arena.
The Ice Dogs ended their one year in the Sports Arena on Sunday with a 6-4 loss to the Phoenix Roadrunners in front of an announced 5,021.
It was a familiar scene. The Ice Dogs, losing their seventh in a row, blew a 4-2 third-period lead as Phoenix scored four goals in about four minutes.
The team, which moved here from San Diego this season, will move to Long Beach next season.
“We’re not embarrassed. Obviously we’re frustrated,” said Ice Dog Coach John Van Boxmeer. “We’ve gone pretty hard for a month and I think we earned respect around the league.”
Considered one of the IHL’s elite teams at the start of the season, the team finished 32-36-14 record and out of the playoffs.
