Fourth-Seeded UC Santa Barbara Upsets Top-Seeded UC Irvine

Fourth-seeded UC Santa Barbara upset top-seeded UC Irvine, 4-3, in the semifinals of the Big West Conference men’s tennis championships Saturday at the Ojai Valley Racquet Club.
Santa Barbara’s Alex Decret won a three-set dual with Marc Tardif, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, to help the Gauchos advance to the championship match, where they will meet second-seeded Nevada Las Vegas. The Rebels defeated New Mexico State in the other semifinal.
The Anteaters were led by Steve Tallakson, who defeated Darrin Potkey, 6-3, 6-4, and Julian Foxon, who won, 7-6, 6-4, against Cory Guy.
Tallakson later teamed with Cameron Lindee for an 8-5 victory at doubles and Foxon and Tardif won their doubles set, 8-6.
