Nation IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : Bidder Pays $76,000 to Golf With Clinton
- Share via
A Washington civil servant won the chance to play golf with President Clinton by bidding $76,000 at a private school auction. Clinton offered to play an 18-hole round of golf as his contribution to the annual fund-raiser at Sidwell Friends, the exclusive private school which his daughter, Chelsea, attends. Bidding quickly raced past the estimated $6,000 to $10,000 value of the game, and the crowd of mostly students’ parents was hushed as three bidders battled each other into the $70,000 range. The top bidder was Robert Peck, manager of computer systems for the U.S. Customs Service.
