A Cooke’s Tour of the Area Shows Landover Missing
- Share via
Jack Kent Cooke is not only planning to build a new stadium for his Washington Redskins in Maryland, he is changing the map in the area.
The site for the team, according to Cooke’s map, is Raljon, Md. The area where the stadium is going has long been known as Landover in Prince George’s County.
The name Raljon is a combination of his sons’ names, Ralph and John, and was the name he gave a 16,000-acre ranch in California that he once owned. Ralph died last year.
Reaction from Stan Fetter, a Prince George’s County official: “Every time I’ve seen the most obstinate and obtuse and self-centered thing that Jack Kent Cooke can do, he comes up with something else.”

The right touch: Some tips from Craig Stadler on throwing a golf club in his book, “I Am the Walrus,” with John Andrisani:
--”Use good etiquette. Check to make sure no one else in your foursome is within 20 feet of your target area.
--”The club should fly high and soft, end over end, and with plenty of backspin. Practice this shot frequently and you’ll soon be putting it within 10 feet of your bag every time.”
