Re Column One, “Cut-Rate Legal Eagles,” June 7:
After practicing for over 20 years, I have concluded that the public does not want cheaper legal services; rather they demand and expect free legal services.
I offer a “no time limit” consultation for $25. A typical consultation lasts about 30 minutes, although many last longer, for the same price. Yet, our records show that about 60%who call our office to talk to an attorney either do not want to pay anything or make an appointment and fail to show up.
People do not expect free services from doctors, gas stations or cleaners, but they expect and demand free services from attorneys. I have given up trying to figure that one out.
