MTA, Trust Group OK Bridge Compromise

One month ago, representatives from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the Highland Park Heritage Trust were locked in a polite battle over how best to preserve Pasadena’s Santa Fe Arroyo Seco Railroad Bridge.
On Friday, the two sides reached a compromise.
Because the landmark bridge is a frequent target of taggers, the MTA wanted to cover the 1895 bridge in razor wire. The Heritage Trust said it could stand a little graffiti, but not razor wire.
Through a verbal agreement that is expected be finalized in writing later this month, the trust agreed to allow razor wire at the junction of the tower legs and bridge span--but only until March 1997, when the MTA said it will pay for a permanent solution.
