Arson Suspected in 4-Acre Brush Fire

COSTA MESA — Fire investigators suspect arson was the cause of a fire Monday afternoon that charred about 4 acres of brushland along the Santa Ana River, authorities said.
Almost 20 firefighters were summoned to Cadillac Avenue about 4:30 p.m. to battle the blaze, which blackened mostly dry vegetation between MacArthur Boulevard and the San Diego Freeway, said Jim Ellis, Costa Mesa fire battalion chief.
The fire was under control within 35 minutes, he said.
“We suspect arson because we found a book of matches in the area where the fire apparently started,” Ellis said.
No injuries were reported.
