LeCocq Leads Softball Advance by Stealth

Maureen LeCocq of Chaminade High struck out 13 and Nikki Shaw of L.A. Lutheran drove in two runs with a single in the sixth inning Thursday as the Southern California Stealth defeated the Texas Roadrunners, 3-1, in the first round of a 14-and-under division game at the Amateur Softball Assn. nationals in Midland, Texas.

Kelley Cook of Glendale High drove in the winning run for the Orange County Gordon’s Panthers in a 2-0 third-round victory over the New York Raiders in a 16-and-under ASA game at Chattanooga, Tenn.
In a second-round 16-and-under game at the same venue, Kim Diener of Alemany pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief in the Orange County Batbusters’ 7-1 victory over the Oklahoma City Power.

Cindy Ball of Camarillo High struck out 12 and Marcella Passarelli drove in Tashie Aguinaga of Antelope Valley with the winning run in the seventh inning to lift the 18-and-under Southern California Stealth to a 1-0 victory over the West Texas Heat in a third-round ASA game at Eden Prairie, Minn.
The Heat’s lone scoring opportunity was thwarted in the third when Michelle Notarao of Westlake High made a running catch on the warning track to end the inning.
BASEBALL
The L.A. Valley Tribe committed five errors in a 6-5 loss to the Southern Nevada Bulldogs in a championship bracket game of the AAU 14-and-under national championships at Kingsport, Tenn.
