Look to the Past for Best Angel Future

I have followed the Angels from the days of Jim Fregosi to Tim Salmon and I hope the new Disney management doesn’t forget one vital ingredient when searching for a new manager--tradition! How about interviewing for managing and coaching positions guys like Brian Downing, Bobby Grich, Dean Chance, Carney Lansford, Andy Etchebarren, Reggie Jackson. It broke my heart to see Bobby Knoop and Rick Burleson released.
For crying out loud, go steal Bob Boone, the smartest baseball man ever to don a halo (next to Mauch and Rigney, maybe). I remember Dave Chalk and Paul Schaal . . . does anyone else?

More additions for my Tony Tavares scrapbook [Aug. 30]:
1) “I’m looking at the game itself.”
--He means the “Find the dot” scoreboard game between innings.
2) “Baseball and hockey are two different sports.”
--Nothing gets past this guy.
3) “I probably have the wrong personality for this [job].”
--Trust me, Tony, you do.
