Cal State Fullerton Beats American

Keiichi Yamamoto scored two goals to help 17th-ranked Cal State Fullerton beat American, 4-2, in the Coca-Cola Classic men’s soccer tournament Sunday in Charlottesville, Va.
Yamamoto broke a 1-1 tie with a goal with about 15 minutes left in the first half. His second goal came about 17 minutes into the second half and put Fullerton ahead, 3-1.
Sheldon Thomas, who scored Fullerton’s first goal, was the tournament most valuable player. Tom Helmer also scored for the Titans (3-0-1).
In a nonconference soccer match:
California 2, UC Irvine 2--Patrick Lee scored on a header with about 23 minutes left to tie it, 2-2, for host UC Irvine (2-1-1). Ryan Ruggerello also scored for Irvine.
In women’s nonconference soccer:
UC Irvine 3, Cal State Northridge 0--Simone Ferrara scored twice for visiting UC Irvine (4-0-1).
Cal State Fullerton 8, Texas El Paso 1--Dolores Browning scored twice and Barbie Gil had a goal and three assists for host Fullerton (2-1), which outshot the Miners, 24-6.
