PHOENIX — Former Sen. Barry Goldwater Sr., the dean of conservative Republicans, suffered a minor stroke Monday and was in the hospital for neurological tests, his office said Tuesday.
Spokeswoman Doris Berry quoted the former Arizona senator’s wife, Susan, as saying he was “resting comfortably.” A hospital spokeswoman said Goldwater was in good condition and seemed to be in good spirits.
Goldwater failed in his bid for the White House against Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964.
