NEWPORT BEACH — A 57-year-old woman was in critical condition Friday after being struck in a crosswalk by a car driven by a 17-year-old boy.
Helen Shebanek of Newport Beach was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana with multiple internal injuries.
According to police, Shebanek was crossing the street at the corner of Via Lido and Via Oporto about 8:45 p.m. Thursday when the car driven by the teenager passed another vehicle that had stopped at the intersection, striking the woman.
The driver, whose name was not released, was not cited.
The incident is still under investigation, said John Desmond, a spokesman for the Newport Beach Police Department.
“When we determine the facts, we will take the appropriate action,” he said.
