Man Gets 30 Years in Yosemite Attack

FRESNO — A man who eluded rangers at Yosemite National Park for 12 days after trying to sexually assault a female ranger has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Prosecutors said Phil Marshall Lund, 57, kidnapped the ranger at gunpoint in October and forced her to drive to May Lake. There, he tried to handcuff and attack her, court records show.
The ranger managed to escape with the help of visitors who heard her screams, said Assistant U.S. Atty. Dawrence W. Rice Jr.
Lund, who had been convicted twice before for sex offenses, was found after a 12-day search in Tenaya Canyon in Yosemite.
He pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated sexual abuse at U.S. District Court in July.
