Gratts School

Re your Sept. 14 article on Evelyn Thurman Gratts Elementary School: This new, award-winning school is an indication of the vitality of L.A.’s downtown district: A once-blighted site has been transformed into an exciting learning environment for children. As architects for the school and members of the downtown community since 1906, this project was a labor of love for us at Albert C. Martin & Associates. As we see it, the education of our children is the most important investment we can make for the future of Los Angeles.
We appreciate your mention of the late Ronald Herren, for whom this project was very special. Herren served as project manager, rather than as “design architect” as the story implied.
