SCC Men’s Team to Host Westmont

The Southern California College men’s soccer team will host Westmont in a key Golden State Athletic Conference game at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Westmont, ranked No. 3 in the nation in NAIA, is 9-3-2, 3-1-1 in conference. The Vanguards (6-5-1, 3-1-1) are experiencing one of their most successful starts in conference play.
Martin Lippens, a junior from Germany, is the team’s leading scorer with six goals and five assists. Chuy Miramontes, a junior from Sunny Hills High, has four goals and six assists. Peter Schumerth, a senior from Esperanza, has four goals and three assists.
Westmont is coming off a 1-0 loss to Azusa Pacific Tuesday. SCC, which tied Biola, 3-3, beat Azusa Pacific, then ranked 10th in the nation, 2-0, last week.
After the men’s game Saturday, the SCC women’s team (8-5-1, 1-2-1) will play Cal Baptist.

Women’s volleyball: Concordia setter Kim Martin broke the single-season school record for assists in a three-game loss to Biola Tuesday.
Martin, a junior from La Mirada High, had 33 assists in the 15-7, 15-5, 15-4 loss to second-ranked Biola, giving her 796 for the season and surpassing the 770 Jeanette Robles had in 1990.
Concordia is 8-14, 2-7 in the Golden State Athletic Conference.

Football: Robert Nicholl, a Chapman defensive tackle, was named the NCAA Division III West Region player of the week by Football Gazette. Nicholl, a senior from Mater Dei High, had four sacks in a 44-15 victory over Chico State Oct. 5.
