Four-Star Films : ‘Alexander Nevsky’

Sergei Eisenstein’s 1938 masterpiece stars Nikolai Cherkassov (pictured) in the title role and tells of Russian resistance to a 13th-Century German invasion. It’s a prophetic parable with justly famous battle scenes, photographed with visual bravura and boasting a celebrated Prokofiev score (Bravo Saturday at 4 p.m.).
