Kids Theater Group Wins $2,000 Grant

An Ojai children’s theater company has been awarded a $2,000 California Arts Council grant that will enable it to continue its outdoor shows.
Illusions Theater won the grant for its “highly creative” family-oriented programming, presented in English, Spanish and sign language.
“Illusions has always been a miracle on a shoestring,” said Elizabeth Ridenour, artistic director.
“Our main emphasis has always been to be affordable to all. To do that, we have to depend on some outside help like grants.”
The grant is contingent on the 16-year-old theater group finding $2,000 in matching funds. Donations are being sought.
In addition, the nonprofit group is planning a murder mystery fund-raiser in January to help finance its 1997 season, which begins in May.
