The Man in the Moon (Lifetime Thursday at 12:30 p.m.) Robert Mulligan scored a directorial triumph in this heartfelt, moving and gently scary 1991 ballad of a movie. Set in rural Louisiana in the 1950s, the semi-autobiographical scenario by Jenny Wingfield centers on two teenage sisters and the boy next door who becomes the focus of their lives. Mulligan, cinematographer Freddie Francis and production designer Gene Callahan make it a breathtakingly lyrical maze of tracking shots, sunny nostalgia and dark undercurrents.
