In the third-place game of the Reebok Holiday Classic:
Mater Dei 44, Birmingham (Ala.) West End 41--After an uninspired first half in which Mater Dei scored 19 points, the Monarchs came out strong in the second half to overtake West End.
Tom Lippold, who scored 14 of his 17 points in the first half, led Mater Dei (9-1). David Castleton and Kevin Augustine, who along with Lippold made the all-tournament team, each had 10 points. Augustine had nine rebounds.
In the championship game, Durham (N.C.) Mount Zion beat North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake, 63-54.
In a semifinal game:
Harvard-Westlake 64, Mater Dei 39--Jarrod and Jason Collins teamed up to help stop the Monarchs, accounting for 34 points, 19 rebounds and seven blocked shots. Harvard-Westlake’s strategy was to key on Lippold, which they did, holding the Mater Dei star to four points.
