Tip Halts Alleged Computer Heist

A delivery company driver and an accomplice were arrested late Thursday when the pair attempted to make off with a shipment of computers bound for Los Angeles International Airport, police said.

The 45-year-old male driver left the Bay Area town of Livermore at 7 p.m. Thursday with instructions to deliver his cargo to LAX by 2 a.m. Friday.

But the man made a slight detour when he reached North Hills, said Los Angeles Police Officer Jason Lee, a department spokesman.

The driver pulled onto Sepulveda Boulevard near Rinaldi Street and, with another man, began unloading computers from the truck to a parked station wagon, Lee said.

A resident noticed the suspicious activity and contacted police from the Foothill Division, who arrived in time to arrest the fleeing suspects, the officer said.

The truck driver was arrested on suspicion of grand theft and held on $100,000 bail.

His accomplice was arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property and is being held on $100,000 bond, police said.
