It’s rare that a freshman attracts a box-and-one defense, but Canyon tried it against Mendiola Friday in the Santiago tournament. Back to the drawing board. Mendiola scored 24 points, including a layup with seven seconds remaining in a 53-52 victory. The next night she scored 26 in a 73-47 victory over El Modena in the title game.
